A VPN allows you to build a network on top of existing network infrastructure. The SRCF has set up a VPN including several student run machines around the country. All machines within the VPN can access the rest of the VPN as if it was just another part of the Internet, which includes machines behind a NAT or firewall if they are configured correctly. The data sent over the VPN is also encrypted to increase privacy.

The VPN uses Steve Early's secnet software. The authoritive hosts file is stored on an SRCF-owned machine which is hosted next to our main server, kern. For more details, please contact the VPN-administrators at admin@srcf.net.

This document based on Matthew Garrett's instructions for accessing the VPN from within Jesus College.
